French Awareness Raising Workshop “Leveraging French language for job market insertion ”
New Talents 4 EU
On the 30th of October 2020, took place the national French awareness raising workshop, organised by Simplon.co. This event’s aim was to improve Simplon.co’s linguistic accompaniment of students by rebalancing the different aspects of language classes and bridging the language and IT classes, but also to soften the impact of French language mastery as a hindrance to labour market integration by reaching out to hiring companies and involving them more closely in the process.
The participants had the opportunity to choose to participate to one of the three parallel workshops proposed:
– workshop #1: “evaluating language skills”, animated by Christine Huynh (Simplon.co)
– workshop #2: “articulating language and IT skills”, animated by Theo Biddulph (Simplon.co)
– workshop #3: “French language in the workplace”, animated by Simon Mattia (Kaleidoscop)
During the first workshop, the evaluation of language skills throughout a training session was questioned. Workshop 2 focused on various points, such as accentuating IT-specific French language classes in training programmes without hampering IT classes, envisionning tailor-made curriculums for each individual student, bridging the gap between IT trainers and French language trainers, and providing IT-specific French language trainers with a programme-specific toolbox. On the third workshop, focus points were investigating hiring companies’ needs and expectations, differenciating and objectivizing: language as one of many factors of labor market integration, communicating specific evaluation landmarks, strengthening language training in sandwich courses.

UK Awareness Raising Workshop “Future of work and employability in the UK tech sector”
New Talents 4 EU
The UK awareness-raising workshop organised on November 4th by CodeYourFuture gathered more than 40 participants. This was the opportunity to discuss on the future of work and employability in the UK tech sector.

They shared the struggles they faced accessing the tech world and how, through the CodeYourFuture course they developed the technical and soft skills that make them successful developers today. Capgemini then presented how they have supported them through their partnership with CodeYourFuture and the guidance and opportunities they’ve had access to since starting at Capgemini.

Hearing from various speakers outlined a clear vision for a future where diversity is embraced and cherished and the paths we can take to get there. Whilst there are significant challenges along the path there are real, impactful steps that individuals and organisations can take today.
Italian Awareness Raising Workshop “Focus on the labour exploitation of migrants”
New Talents 4 EU
On the 1st of December 2020, the NT4EU project organized, the Italian awareness-raising workshop of the NT4EU project organised by CO&SO took place. It explored the link between ICT skills and the fight against labour market exploitation. The session discussed on how migrants in Italy, very often, are under “blackmailed” or are obliged to work without any insurance (black labour) and moonlighting is common.
Patrizia Giorio, director of the European sector of CO&SO presented the trainings implemented in Lucca and Florence and that are considered as very innovative because of the presence of tutors and linguistic mediators. It was also underlined the importance that ICT skills can have in migrants labour market integration at the local level, and mode generally in Italy. Moreover, Manuela Soro, an anthropologist of CO&SO, underlined how ICT skills allow migrants and refugees to be informed about the job market and legal procedures, and to be able to find job opportunities in a transparent way.
At the core of the workshop, Andrea Cagioni, sociologist, researcher and social operator, presented in detail the situation of the labour market exploitation in Italy. He underlined, that often social operators and experts working with this target group do not have a full overview of the legislative tools which can support a regular job insertion. For the participants, it was very interesting to learn how to support the target group in the difficult process of integration through employment. It was a very practical event: concrete tips and tools have been given to professional working with refugees and migrants.
