In Italy, migrants very often are under “blackmailed” or are obliged to work without any insurance (black labour) and moonlighting is common. This is why the Italian awareness-raising workshop of the NT4Eu project organised by CO&SO on the 1st of December, explored the link between ICT skills and the fight against labour market exploitation.
AGENDA
The workshop started with a presentation of the NT4EU project by Patrizia Giorio, director of the European sector of the CO&SO consortium, and by showcasing the great results obtained by the trainings implemented in Lucca and Florence. This training was considered very innovative because of the presence of tutors and linguistic mediators. Patrizia Giorio underlined the importance that ICT skills can have in migrants labour market integration at the local level, and mode generally in Italy. Moreover, IT could be a real reply to labour exploitation, and this also motivated the participants.
Indeed, Manuela Soro, an anthropologist of the CO&SO consortium, underlined the important link between ICT skills development and the fight against labour exploitation. Indeed, ICT skills allow migrants and refugees to be informed about the job market and legal procedures, and to be able to find job opportunities in a transparent way. Plus, it is also a skill that allows them to defend their right to have a transparent, legal and well-retributed job.

At the core of the workshop, Andrea Cagioni, sociologist, researcher and social operator, presented in detail the situation of the labour market exploitation in Italy. He underlined, that often social operators and experts working with this target group do not have a full overview of the legislative tools which can support a regular job insertion. Andrea Cagioni shed a light on the tools at disposal and how to overcome this kind of problem. For the participants, it was very interesting to learn how to support the target group in the difficult process of integration through employment. It was a very practical event: concrete tips and tools have been given to professional working with refugees and migrants.
